Multifunctional use of the sports facilities is a key factor in its approach. Ease and speed of set-up and store-away is important, for rapid change-overs during school classes for instance. Amongst the elements that facilitate this are for instance the use of aluminium for game posts (volleyball, tennis, badminton, handball etc), which reduces maintenance cost and makes handling easy and fast.

Schelde is also the inventor and designer of the counterbalanced spring-operated system for portable basketball backstops, as opposed to the traditional (electro-)hydraulic systems. Furthermore Schelde is one of the few companies that is capable of custom-designing equipment in order to meet specific conditions and custom requirements in gyms and sports venues around the world; think for instance of upward folding ceiling-suspended basketball backstops, hoistable divider curtains, wall-mounted basketball backstops with customized projection, etc.

Schelde equipment is designed and manufactured in full compliance with prevailing rules as issued by international sport governing bodies. It is an ISO 9001 approved company, and the equipment carries official endorsements by FIBA, IHF, IAAF, WVBF.

Philosophy
Building successful athletes is a matter of starting to create awareness at (pre)school level. That is why we design our equipment in such a way that children are looking forward to their PE lessons.

We provide equipment that invites children to use their imagination, their creativity; equipment that lets them build self-confidence and develop coordination skills. The P.E. apparatus are designed in such a way that they are extremely versatile, so the possibilities of use are virtually unlimited. The equipment must be safe, simple to use,easy to set up and store away and after use leave a clear room ready for other uses.

Coordination
In new-build projects, it is of vital importance to properly coordinate the acquisition of sports equipment at the early stages of the project, i.e. when it is still on the drawing board.

Ceiling-suspended as well as wall- and floor-inserted equipment have specific design loads that need to be taken into account ; think for instance of auxiliary steel beams between the structural trusses for suspending roll-up divider curtains or suspended backstops; think also of the insertion of floor sleeves for the removable game posts and the loads exerted on retaining walls by projection frames of wall-mounted basketball backstops.

For all these reasons, a proper coordination is strongly recommended at the level of the architect before the actual construction stage. Schelde is at all times prepared to assist with lay-out proposal drawings, details of fixed equipment, design loads to be taken into consideration, recommendations and specifications for tender purposes, etc.
